Take a full day from Cairo with your guide to Alexandria. Explore the city founded by Alexander the Great on this full day and visit its monuments, museums, and gardens that open onto the dazzling Mediterranean Sea.
Built in the fourth century BC on the orders of Alexander the Great, it was here that Marc Antony and Cleopatra lived together, Eratosthenes measured the circumference of the Earth, and the Julian calendar was invented. Your guide explains its history and leads you through its most remarkable sites. Start with a visit to the impressive Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, hewn into a cliff, where you see a blend of Pharaonic and Roman art then visit the Pompay pillar and the Roman Theatre then have lunch at local restaurant then it is the time to see the exterior of the medieval Citadel of Qaitbay, renowned for its spectacular sea views and built on the site of one of the 7 Wonders of the Middle Ages.
